Kannonnokka

Kannonnokka in Porvoo has the Kallionkolo, a wood-fired sauna partly cut into the bedrock and kept gentle, with a hot tub and cold tub on a cliff-edge terrace.

Kannonnokka was founded in 2005 on a rocky hill in the forest at Grottabacka above the Porvoo river, first as a kota for gatherings, then in 2010 with a sauna quarried partly into the rock, a shingle-roofed terrace and a fireplace lodge. The Kallionkolo, the rock hollow, keeps a traditional wood stove and a gentle temperature of around 140°F, so its löyly is moist and oxygen-rich and people stay on the benches a long time. On the terrace at the edge of the cliff there is a hot tub and a wooden tub that doubles as a cold bath. For years it was a private venue for parties, weddings and company days; now it opens its doors to individual bathers on public sessions as well.
