Kauhtuan sauna at Kyröskoski is the Hämeenkyrö winter swimmers' club sauna on Kyrösjärvi, with a prize-winning smoke sauna open to all several evenings a week.

Kauhtua is what a Finnish volunteer sauna looks like when it is done well. The Hämeenkyrö winter swimmers formed in 2002, leased a piece of the Kyrösjärvi shore from the municipality the next year and built their sauna almost entirely by talkoot, the shared volunteer labour that raises so many Finnish saunas; then in 2008 they finished a smoke sauna beside it that was named the best smoke sauna in Finland in the company sauna class at the 2009 Ikaalinen sauna festival. The stove carries 650 kilograms of stones, is fired from a separate stoking room so no unburned gases reach the bathers, and a steel hood is lowered over the stones after heating so the soot burns away.

On the first Saturday of the month the smoke sauna is heated for the members' session, which is open to all. The lodge till closes at 8pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturdays. Public sessions are open to everyone, members or not; pay at the fireplace lodge on arrival.
