Veittijärven sauna

Veittijärven sauna in Ylöjärvi is the winter swimmers' club sauna on the lake shore north of Tampere, with a wood-fired sauna, a smoke sauna and an ice hole.

Veittijärvi is a small lake ten miles north of Tampere in Ylöjärvi, and sauna bathing on its shore goes back to the 1970s, when the city of Tampere ran the spot as Kesäniemi. The Ylöjärvi winter swimmers took over in 2002 and have since moved and rebuilt the sauna in a new position that ties it to the recreation area, with a terrace of benches looking down a long jetty into the lake. Every opening day both the ordinary wood-fired sauna and the smoke sauna are heated, and the public sessions are for everyone, members or not, with the ice hole kept open through the winter.
