Bugøynes, Pykeijä to the Finns who settled it in the 1700s, is a fishing village on the Varangerfjord where the descendants of those settlers still live and the sauna is called by its Finnish name. Jäämeren Sauna means the sauna of the Arctic Ocean, and it earns the name: a wood-fired room for six standing on the white sand, with a spacious changing area, outdoor seating for cooling in the sea air and a practical staircase down to the beach so that a dip in the Arctic Ocean is part of every session. Two small cabins stand a few steps away, and in summer the midnight sun lights the fjord until late.
