Johnny Walsh grew up on the South Shore and, by his own account, came out of the pandemic years burnt out and leaning hard on the sauna at his house. He could not find an authentic wood-fired sauna anywhere nearby to point people toward, so he built one onto a trailer and started towing it around. That is Saltwater Soul Sauna: a Nordic spruce hot room on a 7-by-12 footprint, fired by a HUUM wood stove, with three benches that seat six adults sitting up or three lying down. A long window is cut into one wall for the view, there is a changing room with a porthole, and a cold shower and foot spout are mounted on the outside of the trailer. It comes to you.

Their FAQ says six adults sit comfortably, or three lying down. Cold plunge: A cold shower and a foot spout are plumbed into the outside wall of the trailer and come with every rental. Hours: Rented by the night rather than the hour — one, two or three nights, weekday or weekend, or a full week. Delivery, pickup, setup and a stove tutorial are included in the rental. Dates are requested through the Book a Sauna page on their own site rather than checked out instantly, so allow for some back-and-forth. You need to supply the spot: a solid level surface roughly 16 ft long by 9 ft wide, 12 ft of overhead clearance, and room for a truck to back a trailer in — they will decline a booking if there is nowhere safe to leave it, and would rather see photos of the space beforehand. Cancellations are refunded in full at 14 or more days' notice, 50% or a full rebooking credit inside 14 days, and credit only inside 48 hours.
