The Sauna Club is Evanston's wood-fired mobile sauna: public sessions on the Lake Michigan shore, weeknight pop-ups at neighborhood breweries, and private rentals towed to your driveway and set up for you. It started in a backyard. When the McGaw YMCA closed during the COVID shutdown, founder Ryan Cohler missed the sauna enough to build his own out of salvaged material — cedar from a shuttered Chicago spice shop, a stove bought off Craigslist, an all-weather glass door from a neighbor's remodel. Friends and neighbors kept turning up. In 2022 he bought a purpose-built trailer from Voyageur Custom Saunas in Minnesota, and The Sauna Club went public.
