Wild River's sauna started life as a horse trailer. Nathan Ferguson, the carpenter behind Wild River Carpentry on County Road 36 outside Westport, gutted it and rebuilt the inside in cedar — benches down both sides, a plank floor, a wood stove in the corner, string lights along the ceiling and a horseshoe on the wall. From the outside it still reads as a small white trailer with a chimney. From the inside it reads as something made by hand, because it was. The arrangement is simple: they tow it to you. You pick a drop-off date on their booking page, give a delivery address and say how many days you want it, and it turns up — the booking slots are all evening ones — with a bag of firewood.
