Niemi-Kapee

Niemi-Kapee is a family farm on Näsijärvi north of Tampere with five cottages, each with a wood-fired sauna, and a granite-and-log smoke sauna on the shore.

Niemi-Kapee began as a dairy farm after the war, and the first rental cottage was a converted boathouse in 1951. Today the family's third generation runs five cottages on the shore of Näsijärvi, every one with its own wood-fired sauna, a rowing boat and a jetty to fish from, and dogs are welcome. The Saunaranta is the reason sauna people drive out: a smoke sauna built in 2004 on the pattern of the 1800s from grey Kuru granite and logs, whose stove carries thousands of kilograms of stone and takes hours to heat; the Wanhasauna, a once-fired sauna that has been giving löyly for close to a hundred years; and a six-person shore sauna on a continuous stove for those in a hurry.

The three saunas at the Saunaranta are rented privately, and a public sauna session in them is held a few times a month for anyone to join.
